Frequently asked Questions

Do you know how to handle your weapons?

It is one of our rules that every Hetairoi who carries arms is able to handle and use his weapons. The only place to use them - apart from individual combat exercise - is within the limits of a public demonstration.
The reason for that is safety. Each weapon, even a stage combat weapon, involves a certain risk of injury, which is increased by improper use. Demonstrations of weapons and fighting techniques beyond the limits of regulated demonstrations also endanger the audience.

Line

Are you open for new participants?

We welcome people interested in our activities. On principle, we allow everyone. However if you would like to join you will spend some time on trial so we can get to know each other until we decide about full membership.

Line

How do I become a Hetairos?

The best way to join is to contact one of our members, if possible in your vicinity.

Can I book the Hetairoi?

We are happy to visit your school, university or museum. We are also available for attendance at certain events, which comply with our standards.

We are not intending to participate in wine festivities, carnival processions or similar events that do not have an educational purpose.

Line

Do the Hetairoi offer a place for civilians?

Absolutely! Despite the fact that most but not all members are portraying Ancient Greek warriors at present we attach importance to ascertain that we are not exclusively engaged in military re-enactment.
Therefore we welcome every "civilian".

Line

Do you carry arms?

Yes, but most of the weapons we use are merely "stage combat weapons". Stage combat weapons are blunt and not apt for use as real weapons.

Line

Do you really engage in combat?

No. Stage combat where performed is for demonstration purposes only. A real combat is too dangerous and serves no educational  aim.
